.....Ramey-Estep Homes’ Community Based Services assists youth who need some guidance and support, but not residential services. These services include the Court Diversion Program in Boyd and Carter counties and the Alternative Education Program for the Boyd County School System. Additionally, we offer resources that are beneficial to the family. These resources include family counseling, referral to community outreach programs and other types of assistance as needed.
.....The Court Diversion Program serves young people who are status offenders or first time minor public offenders who present little risk to public safety, but otherwise would be placed in detention or another locked facility. Services are primarily provided in the children’s homes and school environments. In some cases, they are placed in emergency or longer-term treatment within our Residential Program before being returned home.
.....Alternative education for the Boyd County School System is a collaborative effort to provide alternative education and day treatment services to students from the county who require such services as well as to youth from Ramey-Estep who are beginning their transition back to the community. The target students for this program often lag significantly behind their peers academically and tend to display behavior and social skills that impede their adjustment in the typical high school setting. This program provides them with a real shot at graduating from high school, an option that is often beyond their reach in traditional school settings.
.....Their typical day consists of six instructional blocks of 90 minutes each during which they receive credit for core high school courses, a course in character education and a service learning class. Because of the block schedule and extended day, motivated students can complete many more credits toward graduation than possible in their previous high school environment.
